The ones that are well-known beyond their own sport/team are celebrities, the rest are not.

Tiger Woods, David Beckham, Joe Montana, etc are celebrities. If people who don't give a damn about the sport know who they are, they are a celebrity.

a celebrity is someone who is known or renoun, so of they are someone who people can recognize, then yes, they are a celebrity.
