Does anyone know of a movie in the 80s or 90s about killer fungus?

This is how a friend of mine explained it....I have no idea what he's talking about, but figured I'd try to find it for him.

this infectious fungi goes around and infects humans, grows inside thier body, and when they least expect it, shoots violently out of their stomach into a like 3 foot spire , causing them to fall over and die with this thing sticking out of them. then the fungi puffs out like millions of spores for others to get infected. whats that movie?

...sounds very much like the ultra-gory, 1980 Italiano-flavored sci-fi/horror shocker, entitled "Contamination"; a bunch of large alien pods are found on a freighter ship, and when a biohazard team go into extract them, the pods explode, spraying the team members with an acidic fungus-like substance, which when absorbed into their system, causes their abdominal cavities to explode, in a viceral, bloody shower of guts and gore!!!

...and that's just the pre-credit sequence!!!
