To clean the outside plate of the iron? If so... Put the iron on the hottest setting.. Get a thick cotton towel and dampen it slightly, when the iron is really hot just rub the towel or use the iron on the towel to get any residue off the plate.... Good luck

I seem to recall that you put in a solution of vinegar and water. Try Googling "clening a steam iron". Also, steel wool is sometimes useful for the botomof the iron.
