Of course it is taught. My son had to watch "Fahrenheit 911" and "An Inconvenient Truth" several times.

Most of the teachers that have been teaching since 1990 went to college in the 60s and 70s. Many of them are still living in that era, spewing the same old tired rhetoric. America is evil, and it is because of the white men that run it.

And the terrorists attack us because we deserve it. The only thing that can help us is more control from our government (except when we infringe on the rights of the islamoterrorists). We are too selfish and foolish to watch out for ourselves. Why, look at how we are destroying the planet.

I wonder what they say about Ronald Reagan?

History, next to math/sciences, is the most important thing we should be teaching our children. it is also one of the areas that has beed swept under the table. I had a world history teacher that was more obsessed with the art of ancient cultures than teaching the histories of man. We barely got to the iron ages by the time school was out for the year. The next year's american history lesson was taught by someone who had a vouice less interesting than Ben Stein. The last time i learned anything about history with out doing the research myself was in my 9th grade civics class which gave me alot of information on how things are SUPPOSED to run in this country. I was a bit of a fool in my high school years and instead of sticking with it I received my GED at 16 and have been working ever since. What is really sad the GED in my state did not have any history or government in the testing at all that I remember. The school system for me did not truely teaching history, let alone spin. Hopefully this has changed in the last 15 years but I highly doubt it.

"Teaching" about al'Qeada in a high school World Studies class or US History class falls under the general purview of Cold War, specifically in Afghanistan. In general, I would say most teachers have very little knowledge of that region of the world let alone the time to discuss it properly. I wish I could say time wasn't an issue but when the State requires teachers to instruct everything from the end of the Civil War to the 1990's in one year things get really superficial.

It's practically impossible in a high school survey course of American history to spend more than a week or two on the world from the Vietnam era on.

All history is spin -- some deliberate, some accidental.

That's the nature of any sort of reporting and documentation.

Even two people who witness the same even don't describe it the same immediately afterwards (as any police officer could tell you). So, expecting written reports generations later to be more then even barely accurate is unrealistic.

Hell, when I went to school in the sixties and seventies, most of the American History we were taught was propoganda as well. I shuddered when I learned about the real Lincoln, Washington, and yes a bi sexual Thomas Jefferson.

It seems to me that a lot of what is taught in public schools is political spin. I try to keep my kids aware of the socialist agenda and current events that are not well presented in the media.

Sounds to me like your all political spin. Thank god you don't teach my children.
