A lot of people are ashamed. The more people you talk to about your pain, the less it hurts.

People who abuse usually have a lot more power than the abused. And the abused often keep silent because they are afraid of retaliation from their abuser.
I suppose a good example is how some priests abused children in their churches.
If these kids had complained, then they could've ended up in a lot of trouble with other members of the church and even with their own parents, because a priest has a lot more credibility and authority than some underage kid has.

Abuse is not a "fun" subject and is a controversal topic. Talking about it helps others become aware and solutions can be found. Society has also taught us that certain genders/people are not to talk about certain subjects. People that are abused are ashamed and humiluated and think that everyone is going to judge them for being weak because they allowed it to happen.

people don't talk about their abuse because it brings back bad memories and the pain of what happened to them. they work very hard to forget all about it. it's something that if you've never been through it you wouldn't understand it. keeping quiet about it doesn't help. it just keeps building up until one day they lose it and they attempt suicide. it should always be dealt with by a trained therapist to help them deal with their pain and anger.

Abuse comes with a portion of feelings of guilt. We find it hard to talk while we bear the burden of responsibility. It's only when we can understand we were the victim that we can understand how it influenced our lives. With that out of the way talk is not necessary as it only perpetuates the years of not understanding. Just do what we need to do with confidence in our selves.

Because it might be hard for people to come out with it
Or they might be embarrased
And they might think that if they try and forget it happened then everything will be back to normal
