1/4 x12=3
3 x12=36 close enough to 37 if baking 12 batches of cookies instead of one.

In other words if you baked a single cake that required a 1/4 cup of butter and 3 eggs then if you were going to bake a dozen such cakes your batter will be 12 times all the ingredients including butter and eggs.

Well for cooking purposes they are very different but mathematically i think you mean ratios; in that case then they are not equivalent.
