If it is a manual tranny, you can use one off a 3 or 4 speed. They are readily available everywhere. Check out this buy it now price:

Go in to Autozone and tell them you want a rebuilt transmission for a 70 el camino. They will fix you up with one.

Might have to go with an aftermarket one like Lakewwod unless you can find one it a salvage yard, swap meet or trans shop.
