People eat this practically everyday. It may be weird to you but is normal to them. They live in certain places where alligators and bugs may be their only food.

I have had alligator a few times. Every time I have been able to order it, it was fried. I agree with the other replies that say it tastes like a salty, tough chicken. It wasnt too bad. As for age to eat it, I have been told that this can very. Younger gators are more tender than older ones. Also, those raised in captivity are more tender than their wild counterparts.

you ask why people eat this, and the answer is because its food. what is edible is decided by a culture and by environment. Aligatior is tame compared to other food items. Watch shows on the travel channel for examples.

Yes, that is true. I never had an idea about an alligator meat as food and I never tried eating it but I knew quite a lot after watching a television special featured program about an alligator place as a tourist attraction in Africa. Inside such place has a restaurant serving all alligators menu - barbecued alligator meat and tail, alligator burger, fried alligator to name a few recipes offered. Customers of different nationalities who were asked for feedback said alligator meat was like chicken meat and was "delicious".
Anyway, find more alligators menu by entering "alligator dish" in any search engine of your preference. You wil be amazed of the various recipes available. You may try to have a look in here:

First thing. If your cousin has caught and is keeping a wild alligator he is in violation of both state and federals laws. If I knew who he was, I would not hesitate to call a Wildlife Officer and report him.

Yes, many people eat alligator. And that includes Americans. I have eaten gator tail and enjoyed it.

Leave the wild to the wild.

Eating what we in the US call exotic foods are perfectly acceptable in many countries. Alligator is supposed to taste like chicken. I've seen chocolate covered ants and grasshoppers. Eating this stuff is nothing more than learned behavior.

yes people do eat them. they are very tasty. the best is the meat from the tail. mostly it is fried lick chicken but there are many things you can do with the meat. What was said about raising one to eat... it won't get big enough with out a huge area to live in much like fish their growth is stunted by the size of their enviroment...I have had Dog, Cat, Monkey to name a few. give it a try you never know what might surprise you in flavour...

Aligator meat actually tastes like beefy, fish meat. It's not like chicken at all. If it's not cooked well, it can be quite chewy too like beef. I ate it before in an african restaurant and didn't like it. Chicken is still my fave!

I had fried gator when we lived in Florida. It taste like a saltier gamier(tougher) chicken. You would have known it was not chicken. I don't know if I particulary like the fact that his is raising a pet just to eat it. I cant imagine eating my dog for instance. Its actually quite scary when you think about it. You raise something from a baby to full grown adult and have no problem emotionally eating it. I would think about suggesting help for him.

Crocodiles are eaten wherever you find them. Crocodile is popular in Australia. Octopus is also eaten in many parts of the world, it is cooked like squid. You have to be careful with octopus and squid not to overcook it or it gets very rubbery. properly cooked, it is delicious.
