1. You should probably find a book about this and follow it.

2. Here's the general rule for any particular exercise: Pick an easy weight. Do ten repetitions. Each practice increase the repetitions by 2 until you get to 20. Then increase the weight. Repeat.

3. Keep track of your weight and reps.

You want to push yourself, but not hurt yourself or wear yourself out.
