Hi, I have a Emachines T2892, I currently have 1.5 GB of RAM, 160GB Harddrive, and a decent video card (256mb), I also have Comcast Highspeed Internet. I was thinking of upgrading my RAM from 1.5 GB to 3 GB, will this help the overall performance of my computer? Thanks alot!

More RAM will only boos your performance if you are using up all that you have now,. Most people will not use up 1.5 GB.

Hit CTRL+ALT+Delete to bring up the task manager, and click on the Performance tab.

Here it will tell you haw much memory you have an how much is bing used - under the Physical Memory section. Also if your Page File Usage History is flat and low then you are not running out of RAM and having to use the hard drive as virtual memory.

What are you unhappy about now?

If it is web speed then there may be little you can do about that. If you have a slow link from Comcast then no extra RAM or CPU or hard drive is going to speed that up. If you go to a slow server then you could have a BlueGene on a T1 pipe, but it will still be slow.

Games will be very dependent upon the graphics processor you have, not just how much memory it has.

You need to say what you wnat better performance at, for us to say what you need.

Whats the type of HDD? P-ATA/SATA?
Ram timings?
Motherbord max ram support?
CPU?

The type of HDD.. what i meant was - how the hdd is connected to the mobo. With a grey wire or with a small red one?
CPU seems to be ok.
I would suggest you smaller ram (512 or even 256) but with smaller timings. Smaller timings makes the ram work faster. And if ram works fast, your computer is 'flying' :]
So if you're having 4 slots with a 256 mb in each. You'll have 2 gb of ram!

sure, improve to a minimum of 2Gb, the hot popular. bypass to the dell web site and to be certain what sort you like. could desire to be everywhere from $20-40. this could heavily boost your desktops overall performance. desktops have become extra much less high priced, and you gets a great twin middle processor for $500 and a minimum of 2Gb's of ram and an exceedingly roomy 200Gb complicated force. in case you like to make that bounce. you possibly won't be able to enhance the pictures card in that computer by fact that PCI convey did no longer quite come on that many desktops back then, so in case you improve your total computer and then improve the pictures card for a some distance stronger computer than the only you have suited now.
