I have enjoyed reading the mystery/romance books in the "Maggie" series by Kasey Michaels. They tell about the often funny adventures of author, Maggie, and a couple of characters from her books that suddenly showed up in her living room, and help her solve murder mysteries. Kind of like Sherlock Holmes and Watson. Maggie feels a romantic attraction with one of them, but the situation is "complicated," because they could disappear as suddenly as they appeared -- after all they were originally created in her imagination as book characters.

Start with "The Clan of the Cave Bear" and then read the whole series. Believe me you will not want to put these books down for any reason. I think the author is Jean Auel.
Have Fun!!
