No, he will not only be a great marketing tool for US and soccer, but he will improve the game. Any time a player of his caliber enters the league, the rest of the league can learn from him. His time in the EPL and Spanish League is valuable, and I don't believe anyone else in the MLS can match his experience in those leagues, and at the International level. Also, his team will have a dead ball artist to be reckoned with. That alone will make the league more exciting.

Bothered? Does it register in the news? Yes, but more as a side show. He's past his prime and she is addicted to plastic surgery (beginning to look a bit waxy--or like Joan Rivers). The LA Galaxy will get a minute on SportsCenter now but that's it. Soccer has the highest participation rate of any sport in The United States, but it still doesn't hold our collective imagination like football, baseball, or basketball.

Why should we care?
No real Americans like soccer anyway.
Any fans of soccer in the United States are people that came here from other countries.
So Beckham and all the other players can play all the soccer they want. The Europeans, Mexicans, Cubans, Italians..etc. that couldn't make a life in their own countries can watch it.

The only thing that bothers me is the incessant coverage on ESPN about it. As hot as David Beckham is, and he is EXTREMELY bishy, I could care less about soccer. I tried, I really, really tried last year during the World Cup, but it just can't hold my interest.

Cheers!
