I believe it is WAY WRONG and is a form of mutiliation of the female body. Women should try to be available for pregnancy as long as possible.

What exactly is your lesson about honesty? The fact that you are having a secret affair? The fact that you are having kids with someone else without telling your wife? Or the fact that you have led a woman 10 years your junior to believe that you're going to leave your wife for her? I thought a marriage was supposed to be built on trust, respect, shared values, and a whole bunch of other stuff of which honesty was only one part. If honesty was the sole basis of any marriage, or even the most important building block, then people would be better off marrying their therapists than their lovers or best friends. You state that you have the "right" to more children. Well, guess what? Your wife has the right to NOT want more children. Maybe she feels that the loss of two daughters in a custody dispute and having another with Down's Syndrome while trying to stay sober is enough. Maybe she realizes that every year that passes past her 35th birthday increases her chances of having both problem pregnancies and children with serious health issues. That doesn't excuse her dishonesty, but I'll tell you what--it doesn't excuse yours either. That 23 year old has rights too. She has the right to be with someone who can give her their all in a relationship--not just what's left over when he's done getting back at his wife. She has the right to have children with someone who cares as much for the welfare of those children as he does for his own "rights". And whatever child you might spawn with her would come into this world with--guess what?--a whole slew of rights of his/her own. And if you have enough time to be mad at your wife and still have an affair with a 23 year old, I can't say I'm impressed with how much time you must be giving that daughter with Down's you say you love so much. Kids with disabilities need more time and love than non-disabled kids, not less. And less drama. I feel sorry for everyone you say you love. No matter how much you profess to love them, you still love yourself way too much to do right by any of them.

Sandstorm, I am still of childbearing age, but if I tried to have a baby now, I would be such a high risk pregnancy that neither the baby nor I would make it.
I have three kids who need me here NOW and if I feel like I need another baby, I can adopt a hard to place child. I also teach elementary school because I do love children. I am the only "Mom" alot of those kids have (I work at an at risk school with appalling rates of poverty and neglect).
I can do more good to my own children and my school children by making sure I am around for as long as possible than by bringing another child into the world.

Oh, and I don't have my tubes tied...

It she doesn't want children, then birth control doesn't always work. And it is her body, her choice, she is the one going through the prosecutor, she is the one that has the choice, not anyone else. No one can make up some else's mind. The only thing I really think about this, is that she should think about it and do a lot of research and get all the facts before making such a decision. Of course, I think that should be done for everything and with everyone. But if just does not want children then, well, we can't stop her. It's her mind to make up, it her body to do with what she wants, it's her mistakes to make, it's her choice to see. Nothing else

Are you asking this just to create a commotion? I believe it is a woman's choice whether or not to get pregnant and raise children. I also believe that she should use whatever means she deems best for her (short of castrating her husband, of course).
What if I said to you that men should work hard all of their lives, never retire, never have any fun and be the sole support for their families (which would be really huge if you truly believed what you say)?
As for mutilation of the body, well have you broken a bone playing a sport or just goofing around? Or maybe just scraped or cut your skin and a scar has resulted?
If you really do believe what you have said, then I think you need to look a little deeper into yourself.

If a women does not want children or she has already got the family she wants, then I don't see any problem at all for a women to get her 'tubes tied'.

Whoa, there, Whippersnapper, who will never Be Pregnant.

My doctor recommended I tie my tubes after my second child, second cesearean. My first was 9 lbs and the second was 8lb 3 oz. Healthy, beautiful babies. And risking their mom's life.

I had another child. (Because I wanted to.) He was 8lb 3oz, third cesearean, and the doctor said that was all for me. He tied my tubes after the delivery, same surgery.

So, careful how you practice medicine, son. I am alive to raise my kids.

Well, sometimes there is a medical reason why she shouldn't have any more children. And some men don't want to have more children, either. So, I guess it is up to the couple.

Personally, I never wanted to have my tubes tied, because I always wanted to have more children.

Who are you to decide what a woman does with her body? When you're the one who can carry a child to term and feel the ravages on YOUR body, then you can have your say.

Well I know that some people do it cause after the last pregnancy they had troubles and are afraid of having a child with a disability, others cause they can't afford it, and some cause they think they have too many but I agree with you. It's not right they can control themselves or use protection to avoid having more kids.

My husband got a vesctomy because it is cheaper and less invasive. I think that if a woman wants to be sterile it is her choice. It is better than having more children than you can care for. Oh, also you should go crawl back under your bridge.
