I asked earlier and i learned that you can run dx 9 on a dx10 capable card. I dont want vista, but the answer earlier said my dx 10 card that would be running dx 9 would be crippled. is this true and what are your definitions of crippled in a video card (as in slow, laggy etc.)

"Crippled" is so far from the truth. High end DX10 cards will still perform as high end DX9 cards. And most of the drivers for DX9 are matured and bug-free. I'm not so sure the same is true for DX10 in Vista.

Not crippled, just not used to its fullest potential. This is still enough to destroy any dx9 card though.

Think dx10 (8800 or 2900xt) vs dx9 (7950gtx or x1950xtx)

This is another argument people use when they buy a dx10 card without knowing how well it will do in dx10 since there are no games out that support it. The current dx10 cards run all the latest dx9 games much better than last-gen's dx9 cards.

well thing is with dx10 is also the drain on the card.. it will be not so good, simply due to that, it'll limited power wise.

Hence why a lot of makers put the min. spec being 300-350watt psu (i forget which)

I doubt there will be a really big difference in the 2.. but you wouldn't be getting the best performance.

The DX10 card will not run at its "fullest potential" under DX9. Some of its capabilities simply cannot be used. They will still be better than other DX9 cards though.
