I recommend you stay in Gracia, a neighborhood of Barce. that is north of Ave. Diagonal. It's nice to have coffee in the Plaze de Sol.
Go down to the Barrio Gotico and Las Ramblas during the day.
Go up to Tibidabo, and Parc Guell, on top of Montjuic,
and the Sagrada Familia Cathedral.
Take a train to Sitges for a beautiful little town on the beach, and take a train up the coast to Costa Brava or see if you can catch a boat and see it form the sea. I've heard Cadaques is the prettiest place up the Costa Brava.
Eat paella, Manchego cheese, Don Hugo red wine, grilled Octopus, and try tapas in bars. It's a huge city, so you should read in a guide book like Lonely Planet or Let's Go to see what you're interested in.

only had a day there, but i LOVED LOVED LOVED all the Gaudi stuff all over the place.....you can go into the Sangrada Familiar cathedral ( which is the only cathedral still under constuctioni n the world...it was started by Gaudi but he died before it was completed)...there are some apartments and a house ( forgotton the name of the latter) close by...the house is great to go into!!!!

There are some buses that go around all the main "highlights" in hte city and there are different routes. You can go to places like the site of the Olympic games, a park on a hill with more Gaudi stuff.

Las Rambles is the main drag and has lots of shops etc to see...it seems to go on forever!!!
