I collect skulls of all sorts, real ones, fake ones etc. I have approx 200 but this freaks some people out, why are people so repressed about death?

As yet I do not have a real human skull but quite a few animal ones from a cow (the biggest) to mouse (smallest), and most of the collection is made of sculpture/jewellery/candles etc.

I have also done quite a bit if research into mayan, aztec and Inca civilisations who also had a cultural fascination with skulls, which I find very interesting, especially the Crystal Skulls which are supposed to hold great mystical power.

Can't see a problem....unless of course you are getting these by unnatural means!!
As a nurse the body fascinates me, so I kind of get it!
Certainly more than I get stamp or matchbox collecting, and train/plane spotting...what is that about???!!!
Also, the ancients believed that you could gain the knowledge of the dead by sleeping with a skull. Don't know how much you'd get from your cow though!! lol

Be happy with what you do, and ignore the close minded!! :)

I just came home from a vacation. In Freeport Maine there was actually a store selling outdoor and hunting gear and animal skulls. This was the first time I've ever seen that many skulls for sale in a main line retail store. This says to me that you are not "odd" as there must be enough customers to have such a product on display and priced.

My friend has a real human skull in her spare room. She got it when they were selling off stuff at the hospital she worked at. It seems quite content in it's place and we treat it reverently.
I think it's fascinating to think that this was once the structure of someones face, their most recognisable feature.
I suppose peoples attitude towards death is connected with their personal experience of it and thier spiritual beliefs.
One of my earliest memories is of my
G-Grandfather on his death bed. I was about 3 at the time. I don't remember him in life.
If you are brought up to realise that it is a part of the natural cycle of events then it is no more repressive than any other taboo.
Enjoy your collection.

All through history people have collected skulls. It is a lot less odd than some other things people collect.

Do I know you? Are you in Texas? If not, then I know someone else who also collects skulls. He also has a mouse skull and a bull skull that he painted a Texas flag on. He has his collection mounted in his den. It looks real cool. He looks for them on weekend nature hikes.

I have a few skulls myself. They aren't real but I also collect gargoyles. Yard gnomes make me gag. My hubby has an awesome collection of deer horns that he bagged over the years.

Yes it's odd, all collections of unneeded things are a bit odd, whether that be valuable antiques or anything else. There are more odd people in the world than you might think.

Human skulls or do you have animal skulls too? As a nurse, skulls do not bother me. At all. I have wrapped many a body in their shroud.
