My full length mirror just fell over and broke. (It was just a cheap mirror from Kmart or something, so I'm not even sure it's real glass or just plastic, but I'm still a little nervous).

It fell when I was trying to get a suitcase full of duffel bags for my vacation (I leave for a weekend in VA Beach on Friday), so I feel like this is a really bad sign.

According to my "Cross Your Fingers, Spit In Your Hat" book of superstitions, I should have waited 7 hrs to remove the pieces, (but I already did because it was in my doorway and I have dogs that I didn't want to step on the pieces). Does 7 hrs until they leave the PROPERTY count? Or just 7 hrs from where it fell? (Trash day is on Wednesday).

***Please don't make fun of me for being superstitious... In my experiences, I've realized I really am VERY prone to bad luck and stuff, which has kinda made me a believer... And better safe than sorry!!***

Any other superstitious people out there? What can I do to bring back some good luck??

My superstition book also says to throw it into a swiftly moving river (where no one swims) or bury it in a graveyard at midnight when there's no stars or moon, but I really don't like graveyards, especially at night... But I think it's illegal to just go and bury something there anyway lol.

So I'm looking for other solutions...

Tom T - I tried walking around the area backwards 7 times but tripped on the strap of another duffel bag and almost fell on the 4th round! So I don't know if that worked or not, haha!!

Killroymaster - Actually that's not how it started, I'm not sure where you heard that...

When early man saw his reflection in a pond or lake, he saw what he thought was a part of himself, and when the wind rippled the water, it shattered his image, which was believed to warn of bad luck since this image was a part of him. The superstition lasted and that's how men felt later (common era) since the mirror once "held their image," so it was almost like breaking a piece of themselves.

That's why it's bad luck to break a mirror, because you are essential shattering your own image.

And PS: Throwing salt over your shoulder is only for when you spill salt. It's not for any other reason. (And spilled salt is a sign of evil spirits lurking bringing bad luck because at one time man depended on salt to keep food from spoiling. If salt was wasted, the food would go bad and he would starve during the winter. Since salt defended him from death, he reasoned it would also defend him from the evil).

The mirror would have been glass as plastic will not break as you described. Do this; Walk backward around the place where it fell a total of seven times. This has the effect of reversing back luck, but was unintentionally left out of the book to which you refer. Do as I have suggested, then go on your vacation where you'll have a great time - with a lucky surprise in afternoon of the second day!

Honestly I don t think breaking a mirror equals 7 years of bad luck. I ve broken at least 10, maybe more, and nothing too horrible has happened to me yet. My luck may not be the greatest, but I have to think that if there was any truth at all to this superstition I d be dead already, because I have broken a lot.

Ohhhh. I don't know. You could be in for a rough ride.
Since the mirror broke, I would say it was glass and you are bound to be plagued with all the accompanying bad luck. Try to look on the bright side, it only lasts for seven years.

Alright. I think 7 hours till it leaves your property is ok. You can get your luck back by doing a lot of good things for other people. What goes around comes around!

Kiss a horse shoe.

There is a better thing to do yet. Why don't you just pray and ask the Lord for as much good luck as you need?

Yeah, why not?

Darlin' coming from a supersticious family myself I happen to know a few ways out of an unlucky situation. Now do as I say. Take your right hand pointer finger and connect it with your left hand thumb and take your left finger and connect it to your right thumb no have some one break your circle with their left hand while saying "evil and bad luck begone from this Lady/Gentleman and her/his dwelling in the name of God."

I have heard that if you leave it there for like seven hours then clean up the glass, you will have seven hours of bad luck and not seven years. I'm not too sure about this, but I heard it somewhere.

If the mirror has never been used in any way for a tool in the crafts there is no reason to make its disposal complicated--unless you get an adrenal high out of worry and fear.

I think you're also supposed to throw salt over your left shoulder or something like that...
