I really don't like how I can seem to another person's rudeness to affect me! Depending on the situation, my mood, etc, I am sometimes rude back. Other times, I let it get to me, and I turn my response on others ~ it can affect my entire day! Then (and these are the good times) there are days when I just let it roll off my back and move on, knowing that it's their own issues that cause them to act the way they do. . .
But, mostly, I can't stand it!

I try my best not to be rude back. I usually try to embarrass them and their rudeness. I will ask why are you being rude?
Sometimes I say:
If you are insinuating that I should tolerate such diabolical insolence from such a small piece of humanity like yourself. Then you are enumerating with exuberance of your own verbosity.
Then I say: Respect my authoritie ~Cartman

I will not be rude back but I will be assertive enough that the person would get the point and hopefully think twice before they are rude again.

As I have gotten older, "correcting" an adults behavior, puts them off more so than calling them a name, etc. Someone cut me off in the store line, telling me they are going ahead, because they had less items. I flat out told them in a nasty voice, "You're very rude!"....and now all the attention was focused on them, as where in the past I wold curse, and then the attention was on me, I was the "bad guy"...I'm telling you it works.

if someone is rude to you DON'T be rude back, you don't want to make a bad situation worse, if you act nice back the rude person may stop or get a guilt trip for his or her actions, remember the golden rule! treat others as you would want to be treated. ( even if the other person doesn't seem to care, do it for yourself and you will gain respect and confidence)\
good luck!

Love your avatar! But to answer your question, sometimes yes and sometimes no. I get down right snotty when I turn down a supermarket aisle and two women have it blocked while they gossip. AND, to put injury on top of insult, they don't move when they see you coming! I cop an attitude and say, " Excuse me, but could you please let me get by or hand me two cans of those green beans. Or I can just shop from YOUR carts." LOL They move.

If I love that person... I can hardly believe it. And I give the other cheek.
And even if it is someone I know quite well, it is very hard for me to be really rude.

Well, If there being rude to you, being extremely rude back doesn't help! If their rude to you, you should address the situation, and talk with them. Ask them why their being rude to you, and find out what your doing to make them angry. If they don't want to talk to you, cut off communication with them.

Ha, yes, if someone is extremely rude to me, I will respond right back with a very cutting remark. I will not take any b.s. from ANYONE.
