I have this compaq with Windows 98 SE installed. I recently bought a network adapter but it doesn't support Windows 98. I'm not going to use the computer for internet use, just for music and store some document files. Is there a way that I can access WIndows Update and download the WIndows 98SE updates to a cd room to install them on my computer? Or is there another website I can go to? Thanks

There is no reason why you cannot get the correct updates for your computer via another one, and then copy the updates to a CD. That said, if the adapter does not support Win 98, updates probably won't help, since you'll still have Win 98. It's possible too that the adapter will work on 98, but if you called in to their support facility, they would not help you (hence, not provide support for your 98 box). Either way, it's worth a shot to just try it. Worst thing that can happen is it doesn't work.

If you don't have internet access, you don't NEED to run Windows 98 Updates. BTW, the web site no longer exists because Microsoft dropped support for 98 two years ago.

It's safe to use as it is.

I dont thik there is updates for win98se as Microsoft stop contributing updates for it since 2004. Instead try to find a propriate driver for your network card if you don't have a disk with it, on a manufacturers site or at http://driverguide.com
