Michel de Nostradame lived in the 16th Century and is most noted for a 1555 book of quatrains (4 line verses) called "Centuries". Some charlatans mistransalate them to make it appear he predicted events centuries before they happened. That is nonsense. They say he called Hitler "Hister". One quatrain says "Rhine et Hister", and that obviously means Rhine and Danube Rivers, for the Danube was called the Ister in ancient Greece and the Hister in ancient Rome. One book my brother had said he predicted the 1666 Great London Fire and transalates a verse as saying "66". I speak French, so I know it means "23 and 6's" not "66". I have pointed out many such errors in transalating Nostradamus on Yahoo Answers. He did not really predict anything. He said something about the 7th month of 1999, and some imbecile said that really means 9/11/01. How absurd can one be?

Michel de Nostredame (December 14, 1503 – July 2, 1566), usually Latinized to Nostradamus, was a French apothecary and reputed seer who published collections of prophecies that have since become famous world-wide. He is best known for his book Les Propheties, the first edition of which appeared in 1555.
Since the publication of this book, which has rarely been out of print since his death, Nostradamus has attracted an almost cult following. His many enthusiasts, as well as the popular press, credit him with predicting numerous major world events.

Nostradamus was some old dude who wrote a book called "Predictions". It was full of prophecies, but they are so vague they aren't worth squat. Still, people who have a tendency to predict everything are called "Nostrodamus", but more as an insult than a compliment.

A French monk from the Middle Ages. He wrote a book of prophesies. Some people take the prophesies seriously, some don't. They're written in an obscure language full of metaphors, so they can be taken to mean anything you want.
