I am the queen of hot flashes and I lived in the desert for 5 years, so here are a few tips, not including the air conditioner (no duh!) Buy some rosewater (or make some) and keep it in the fridge and mist yourself with that whenever you get really warm. Ice packs are OK but I would suggest taking a washcloth and keeping it in the fridge, and sounds weird but put some clean socks in the fridge. What accelerates heat in your body is your neck, wrists, and feet, if you cool them then you will feel cooler. Wash your hair and face in cool...not cold, water to keep you cool. Don't drink alcohol which raises body temp. Other than that...good luck!

I know how they feel, we had the same problems in Australia last summer and we don't have aircon! My Greyhound and Corgi hated it. The local Greyhound adoption place suggested these tips: Get a damp towel and pop it under the dogs chest - the condensation helps cool the air. Make sure plenty of water is available, and make sure they are drinking it. Obviously don't go walking, even a night unless the temperature really drops (some nights didn't get below 28 celcius - 82F overnight here) and keep the dog inside in the coolest room you can. If the dog will eat them, a frozen icy pole or similar helps (I actually gave ours some kids hydralite bars - the sort you give when they've been sick to replace fluids - check the ingredients with a vet first). The towel seemed to help most, and we squirted our two with the hose every few hours as well (make sure the water runs cool first). GOOD LUCK - hope some of these tips help.

Get one of those bandannas that has the gel inside the band...when you wet it and tie it around your head, it keeps you cool for a while..then you just re-wet it. I use it to mow the lawn in 95 degree heat here on the Coast..Also it is important to drink a lot of water..that will also help keep your skin cooler. Don't wear lotions,,,or even sunscreen when you are mowing or working....I know what they say, but it will make you feel a lot hotter...wear a hat with a brim, instead..save the sunscreen for the beach or in your everyday moisturizer. Don't stay in the sun too long at one time. Do what you have to do, a little at a time. Wear loose thin, cotton clothes...no poly....and avoid fried foods...eat things like melon, watermelon, grapes, tomatoes,,things that contain a lot of juice...

Stay in the air conditioned house! If your house doesn't have a/c, open all the windows at night to cool the house down, then close them early in the morning. Keep all the blinds or curtains closed to keep the sun out. If that doesn't help, go to the mall and enjoy the a/c!

Stay in the house with air conditioning
Go for a drive with the air on
Swim
Go shopping the stores have air conditioning you don't pay for.
Go to a restaurant and just hang out with friends and family
That's what I do when the weather is just to hot to handle.

I stay in with the AC on. If you can't do that, find some water. Go swimming, take a shower, sit under the hose.
