Volunteer? They sign up willingly after that there is nothing volunteer about it.

My friend's 19yr old son is being sent for the 2nd time..he almost got killed the first time..it's horrifying..and for what?!....it's okay, don't answer that, it's rhetorical.

...they cannot protect our country if they are not here...occupying another country is not "protecting"

The Military is Voluntary because no one is forced to join the Military since 1973.

However once you do join voluntarily, you know full well you are going to go where Uncle Sam sends you.

Even people who enlisted during the draft era (like my Paternal Grandfather) knew this, yet he signed up as a minor, lying about his age, knowing full well he could be sent off into World War II and killed in combat, well he didn't get killed (he was wounded though, but continued to serve even after).

And by the way, did you know that a lot of soldiers who got wounded in Iraq were offered a choice between honorary discharge or staying in the service?

And while some took honorary discharge (I don't blame me for taking that route), some decided we are staying in the Army (that really takes guts after getting wounded) and some of the wounded who stayed have said "we want to go back to Iraq?"

Some would say that is crazy but I say that is real courage when you ask to go back to where you were wounded.

He gets re-volunteered, whether he wants to or not. My home state has more reservists and National Guard members activated due to the war than any other. There have been numerous stories in the press about men being re-activated two or three times, even after doing two year tours in Afghanistan and/or Iraq.

:-(

Volunteers who enlist for one year are forced to stay longer cos the contracts are made in a way the army can change anything they want and doesn't have to deliver anyone of their promises.
You know the expression Chinese volunteers? It are the poor and less fortunate who mostly fight American wars. They are lied to to get them to enlist.I think they get jail time if they want out.

Of their own free will they have signed a contract committing a particular number of years to serve. I committed to 6 years, 4 active and 2 inactive.

They volunteer to sign a contract with the military. They signed a contract, agreeing to do what ever they where commanded to do and to protect our country.

Dems quit volunteering when Clinton was president.

I'm afraid no one will serve under the next Dem.
