i had a swimming coach, she used to be in the Olympic games, she used to tell me its ok to swim while u have ur period but as soon as u leave the pool u start leaking, her idea is the water density and pressure wont allow the blood to leak. i tried it and worked well.

Swimming with out a tampon is a no no!! Have you ever used a tampon before?? If you haven't i understand that it may be a scary experience. but it is really not that hard. just relax your muscles and follow the directions. Its something your going to have to deal with all your life, so you better start now. you are not going to want to have to use a pad forever, a lot of women prefer tampon (including me). Also you say that you don't want to tell your family, but you should be able to talk to your mom about this. She is or went through it just like you are. She is the source of the best period advice around, so trust her and don't be embarrassed. By the way if you are looking for a good beginner tampon try Tampax pearl, i have found them to be the most comfortable. GOOD LUCK.

It is a bad idea to swim without a tampon on your period. The pantyliner wont do any good. It will just absorb water. If you're swimming in clear water (like a pool), and your flow is heavy at all you might be able to see blood in the water. Try a junior size tampon if you are uncomfortable with tampons. They are very narrow and you shouldn't even feel them.

Using a pantyliner while swimming... um, NO! Think about that, really. It'll soak up water before your flow will ever get to your pantyliner.

If you are going swimming and on your period you NEED to wear a tampon!

To not do so will have your menstrual flow go into the water (it disperses quickly so it only LOOKS like your flow has slowed or stopped when it actually HAS NOT) and cause a nice humiliating scene when you get out of the water and blood is running down your leg.

Tampons are very easy to use once you get the hang of it.

I'm not a doctor or anything this is my experience:

I go swimming when my period is at a really light flow.

It gets lighter/stops when in the water but getting out is the hard part.

You can use a really loose underwear (seamless) and but it under your bottoms and it usually will hold you while in and out of the water for about an hour or so. NOTE: LIGHT FLOW!

Hope this helps 😃

no you have to use tampons, or not go swimming. Panitliners will just get wet and soggy and wont help at all. Tampons are worn inside the body so they do not get wet, in which case they can absorb the blood. www.beinggirl.com is a site that will help.

No! No tampon=no pool. Water doesn't stop a period. If you just wear a liner you will end up BLEEDING IN THE POOL.

No. Not only is an embarassment hazard for you, it is a health hazard for others. Please do not swim in a public pool during your period if you are not using a tampon.

Not at all. That is disgusting. First off, the pantyliner won't stay in place, and you will bleed and do you really want people to see that or have a mess? It's unsanitary.
