An interesting idea. Sort of Separate but Equal, huh? Didn't America already try that idea? The smoking issue has gone way past anything reasonable, and eradicating smoking has become an end that justifies any means. It's humorous, in a sad way. To hear a nonsmoker smugly state that my right to smoke ends at his nose is laughable, unless the nonsmoker feels that others have the same right to clean, uncontaminated air that the nonsmoker demands. But, though some people have allergic reactions to perfumes and colognes that ARE immediately life threatening, the nonsmoker also demands the right to wear scents- and those who can't hack it, can just stay home. And of course, the nonsmoker has the right to talk on their cell phone while driving, even though it's know to be hazardous for others. Let em stay home. Nonsmokers are fine. The militant anti smokers, are simply hypocrites and bullies.

I am a smoker... but anyone who is not a smoker does not have to be inflicted with second hand smoke that I produce... so I am mindful of my surroundings and of the rights of others.

Since I hate the smell of a smoking only area.. I can imagine what the odor must be like for someone who does not smoke.

To the original question...

There should be a smoke free area

and

A smoking area

There are.

Smokers are free to smoke in any private setting, as long as the owner of the private room or building allows it.

And smokers are free to travel anywhere that non-smokers do.

But if you are suggesting that the law require businesses to set up private rooms to allow people to smoke, then I disagree. That would be no different than requiring businesses to set up private rooms where people are allowed to scream and throw food.

If businesses want to do that, that's their choice. But they should not be compelled by law to provide such accomodations.

Yes. Americans should be free to choose. Even if we could stop everyone from smoking, everyone is still going to die. Let them make their choices then, and accept the consequences.
