Do you think that the mentality that ''black is less'' stuck? I am not saying that’s true because I believe it isn’t and I’m African American myself but at times, I really think about the way the community is. Why do black women wear weave that is the texture of a white woman's hair? We are not born with hair like that. Do we see white women walking around with afro-like pony tails and wigs? No. Afro's are beautiful. Why do we feed into the belief that ''good'' hair is straight hair?
Why do rappers make our community look bad by continuing to glamorize negative lifestyles and ideas? Why do allot (NOT all) of people in the community call other black people ‘’white’’ because they really appreciate school and/or because they speak proper English etc. but then turn around and talk about how great people like Oprah are...
Do we not expect much out of ourselves or what? Where else could this natural lack of self-esteem in allot of us be coming from?

You know, it really isn’t right to judge people over a topic that you are ignorant about. I myself, am a full time college student who ALSO works (and will continue to work)...and I was considering using food stamps in the upcoming future to help me out a little since the help is available (WHO WOULDNT USE THE HELP?) Do I have a job? I believe I do. Am I educated? I believe I am....
Grow up honey…

Cynical - that is so true. It's sad isnt it? And even when you see dark skinned girls in the videos, 9 out of 10 times, their hair isn't natural.

THIS is exactly what I speak of to a lot if pple. See what they fail(Whites) to realize is that Slavery and Jim Crow had a MAJOR effect on us. They seem to think that because slavery occurred a long time ago that we aren't affected, but oh on the contrary, that couldn't be further from the truth. There are remnants of Slave mentalities that are rampant within our community, but they will never understand that because they aren't us.

If the situation was turned around and it had been their folks who were KEPT as slaves it'd be a whole different ball game. oh yes they try and justify their actions because some places in Africa sold war captives, but are these places rich??? I don't think so! Did they continue to sell them? nope! Ya'll began to STEAL these pple.

It's a double standard, especially when it comes to the holocaust, OMG a total and utter double standard. They tell us to forget slavery and to get over it but they sure as hell don't tell the Holocaust survivors to get over what happened to them and the holocaust didn't happen in America; perhaps that is why they are able to handle the Holocaust situation rather than slavery; slavery happened on our soil.

But yes there are transgenerational effects of slavery within out community and we don't even realize it!

Is true. Have you seen the videos of rappers with light-skinned girls? Or girls like Beyonce who straighten their hair and dyed it? Is like they're ashamed of their characteristics, their natural genes. They make fun of Will Smith because he doesn't curse in his songs or speak "gangsta", if a black person acts dignified then they call him/her white. Is the blacks who see themselves as inferior, nobody else. They have the capacity to reach whatever goals they want if they stop feeling sorry for themselves.

very good questions, it would seem they buy into their own mythos. Listen to the music being produced by the black community, the rappers and such, and you certainly don't hear anything good being said. I do think blacks are their own worst enemies.

If you look at blaks in Africa for comparison, you can see that there is no reason to believe blaks in america should be performing any better than they are.

I think slavery would help the black people get off of welfare and back to work.
