Yep, they do it to weed out some people.

I worked in some hotels where you paid $100 for a salad and customers loved it because it meant that only a certain elite could be customers of that hotel.

There are some restaurants in St Marco's Square in Venice where you pay $50 for a coffee, nobody is pushing the customers to go buy their coffee there but the place is not exactly deserted.

In Tokyo there are Golf Clubs where the membership will set you back a cool $5 mil. You don't have to join them though.

You can choose to moan about these places or you can choose to go somewhere else, more in line with your wallet.
So long as you have a choice, you cannot complain when the rich don't want you around.

Then I would remind them that most reputable firms allow there customers the free use of Internet Service because they are PAYING CUSTOMERS. If need be I would point out those in the proximity that offer this service to there customers and remind them that you are a frequent traveler and your corperation will seek accomidations elsewhere in the future if this is there method of doing buisness. Maybe it's typical for that hotel, I don't know...but it's insane!! Go to a local library. They usually provide free high-speed access.

Yeah, that's very expensive. Next time, look for a hotel that gives you free internet, which is really common.
