You can take all your music tapes and CDs, and import them into your computer, import them into iTunes, and export them to the iPod.
If you are trying to get free music, there are all kinds of free music you can download, but be mindful that if you are trying to get music that is copyrighted, you are not in compliance with the law by downloading them, and you may get into serious trouble doing it. I certainly would not get into any habit of doing it, if I were you ! The occassional song here and there isn't going to hurt you or the recording industry, though.

Just take the Mp3 you downloaded and add it to your music library and transfer
various ways to get free music are Peer to Peer programs like limewire, or torrent programs such as bit torrent (you have to download individual torrents and open them with bit torrent and wait to download, make sure that the torrent you download has seeds and it is best if there are more seeders than leechers. seeders offer the files for download and leechers are the ones downloading)
uTorrent is another good torrent program
you can also find stuff on paul p baker. com

use what I use, download the system LIMEWIRE, the free one not the 10.00 a month one, one you have that you search for your songs, download them and put them in your ipod, no money spent

You could download limewire--its free! =] Just becareful if you spend too much i've heard people have been caught.. idkk GOOD LUCK! you might just want to get some itunes gift cards, that's what i do!

Go to limewire.com and download it. Just type in what song you want and download it. It is free and legal.
