It is hard for me to beleive that in my small town in the lower part of michigan is earning $600.00 wk. Someone told me this the other day. I think a person would have to be working in these factories an awful long time to make that kind of money. If this is the case I will go to work in one of these factories. Does anyone know this to be true?

Depends on the town, the employer, whether it's union or not, whether it's skilled or not...

My last personal experience with factory work had me making $2.85 an hour in the mid-70's. But my daughter worked at a Romeo MI factory a few years ago and made $9 an hour. A union job would have paid much better.

Also remember that a weekly $$ amount might involve steady overtime - for example, my $2.85 job was for 58 hours a week. With time-and-a-half for the last 18 hours, the weekly pay came off sounding a lot better than the hourly.

Doing some quick calculations, a 58-hour week (40 hours straight pay, 18 hours at time-and-a-half) would get you $600 if you were paid about $9 an hour. So, yes, very possible.

And $600 a week doesn't go very far any more.

Good luck.

It all depends on what the factory does. Some factories pay pretty well down here in Iowa we have plenty of factories where people are making anywhere from $10- 18.00 /hour. Some factories have union connections and people are making over $20/hour. So it may be possible that the factory you speak of is paying very well.

That is only $15 an hour very much not unheard of, and basically a living wage, not great, but doable.
