First you must really want to give up in your mind and not because some one said to it must be for you
The best way is to set a date some time in the future and on that day stop when you go to bed b4 bed get rid of the ash trays and any cigarette's , lighters you still have so in morning there is nothing to remind you to smoke , then after breakfast go for a walk rather than sit and smoke avoid any situations that caused you to smoke pub, club, other smokers etc
Avoid situations that may cause stress and you will be less grouchy or listen to relaxing music when feeling grouchy or go for a walk or work out as grouchy is normal for all who quit.
Lastly put the money you save on smokes in a jar and then buy your self something you always wanted to with it each week or month so you have something to show for your efforts or just watch it grow as incentive
I smoked for 20yr at 50 -60 per day and this is how i quit and been off for over 2yrs now.
So believe you can do it and go for it

I had smoked for 15 years before I have finally quit about 2 years ago. I did flip-flop in between. In order to quit, you really have to be very determined and consistent.

Here is that worked for me:
1. Stop smoking at home - On a Monday keep the packet at the office before returning home and do not smoke until you go back to the office next day.
2. Tuesday onwards, try to smoke your first cigarette at least half an hour later than the previous day.
3. Continue this for the week. If you have any pieces left on Friday hold the packet under water and throw the packet in the trash.
4. After office, do a extensive interior wash of your car, to remove nicotine smell. Back home, wash your clohes, bedsheets and everything else that may have nicotine smell in it. Take a bath if necessary.
5. Do not smoke that point on.
6. That weekend, try to be busy outside home with non-smoker friends. Avoid alcohol.
7. The second and third day after quitting are the hardest, Try to keep busy. Avoid smokers.
8. If you have past the third day without smoke, you almost made it. But just one cigarette can pull you back into it- resist that temptation for the entire week.
9. Next friday on, you won't feel the urge that often, but be very careful. .
10. Good luck.

since you smoke that much everyday, your body got adjusted having these poisons running ur body. That's why people with more serious drug problems can actually die by quiting abruptly. You hav to take decrease your amount of cigarettes maybe every few weeks or whatever you're comfortable with. The reason why you were coughing and stuff (tryign to not smoke) was because your body was so used to having 2-5 cigarettes a day. So each week you should decrease slowly from 2-4cigarettes, then another few weeks, 2-3, then so on.

Try taking Lobelia Inflata as a tea. Not only is it the world's strongest natural muscle relaxer, but it also inhibits the desire to smoke. I quit smoking after trying some herbs from herbdoc.com and it has worked great so far. It has been almost six months and I have more energy and no desire to start smoking again. Good luck!

I was in the same place that you are about a year ago! I smoked for about 18-19 years! You just have to really want to quit! Just keep smoking even when you don't want one and make yourself sick of them...then when you think that you want one, remind yourself of how stinky they are and how bad they make your breath smell and so on...you WILL be grouchy for awhile but, it will pass! If you have kids, remind yourself that you want to be around for them for a long time! Think about how much better you will feel and how much better food will taste! Good luck to you and God bless! Be strong!

Have you tried hypnotism? It works. There are some great books out at the moment on quitting smoking and I think one of the best sellers has come out on DVD. Head down to your local Blockbuster.
