The biggest reason that I found is that when you spend anytime in the casino, your clothes get covered in smoke then you bring them back to the room and it gets in the other clothes, drapes and carpet.
The other smell you are describing isnt humidity (theres virtually none of that) its the "Vegas hotel smell." Its weird and I have never smelled in any hotel in any other city. I actually love walking into my casino to check in and taking a nice deep breath of that sweet Vegas air! You know you have arrived...

I've never been to Vegas, but chances are it is because people are smoking in them. If I had a better chance to land a room in Vegas simply by saying I was a non-smoker, then thats exactly what I'd say. Sucks to say it, but what do I care if the next guy smells my smoke as long as I get my room.
For the record, I'm not a smoker!

Many have been there since before the stop smoking rule went into effect, so they were smoking rooms, and it gets into the carpets, drapes, and bedspreads, which are almost never washed (I immediately fold and remove the bedspreads in a hotel - you never know what's on them). It also comes in thru the ducts if there isn't a room unit. You can always tell them at the desk you want to see the room first before you pay for it - I do that to make sure it is clean and doesn't stink. If it does I just say "No thank you" and go elsewhere.

If you are not a smoker you will hate it in there. I smoke and I hate smoking rooms cause they smell gross, but if it is the only thing they have and you really need a room just bring lots of Air freshener

It was probably a smokers room before they changed it to non smoking. The smoke is all on the walls, carpet!!
Or maybe the person before smoked in the room!
