HOWEVER, THEY COULD NOT SEE ALL FOUR CHAMBERS OF THE HEART AT THIS STAGE AND THEY SAID THAT THE BOWELS WERE LIGHTING UP TOO MUCH!!! THEY ALSO SAID I HAD PLACENTA PREVIA. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE BOWELS LIGHTING UP MEANS AND IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH OUR SON? THEY SCHEDULED ANOTHER ULTRASOUND FOR JULY 31WITH A FETAL ECHO FOLLOWING. THE NURSE CALLED AND WANTED TO SCHEDULE US TO MEET WITH A SPECIALIST AFTER THE FETAL ECHO. DO THEY KNOW SOMETHING ALREADY AND ARE JUST NOT TELLING ME YET TIL THEY KNOW FOR SURE? HAS ANYONE HAD ANY OF THE FOLLOWING ISSUES AND WHAT DO THEY MEAN???? HELP!!!

First of all, congrats on your baby boy!

I don't know if there is something wrong with the baby. At my 20week u/s they were unable to see all 4 chambers of my daughter's heart and continued to try a couple more times. They were still unable to see all 4 chambers and scheduled a level II u/s. It did turn out that my daughter has a heart defect. But she is 19 months old now and doing just great.

Sometimes things show up on an u/s and they are misinterpreted. It is an imperfect science although it has gotten a lot better. It may very well be that nothing is wrong with your baby and this is just a bump in the road. For every story there is where something like this ended in a diagnosis, there's probably more stories where it ended up being nothing.

I agree with the above answerer, try not to think about it. Your baby needs you to be relaxed. In between my u/s at my doctor's office and the level II I believed nothing was really wrong and it was the best thing I could have done at the time. Focus on the positive - even if your baby does have a health issue, medical science is amazing with what it can do. Try to distract yourself and keep busy however you can. Good luck.

First of all I'm really sorry that you are having these complications, I feel for you. One thing about being pregnant is that your baby feels what you feel. If you are scared and stressed so is your baby. You must keep a positive mind frame right now. About the litening of the bowels, my oldest son did this too, and he's perfectly fine. You are only 18 weeks the baby is not complete yet, Chances are they are covering all bases just to rule out problems. My daughter was supposed to have a neural tube defect when she was born, that could be anything from a minor case of spinabifida to annencephaly (death) but she was born without problems. They like to prepare for the worst and pray for the best. I advise you to do the same. Your baby feels your worry, don't let that happen. Stay positive!!!

About the bowel, it is called echogenic bowel. My ultrasound showed my baby had this too and we are waiting for the 2nd ultrasound to see if it is still there, if so more tests for me. This could be anything. I was told by the doctor that it most likely is nothing (baby may have just swallowed blood), or it could be a chromosomal defect like CF or down's syndrome. I too am waiting impatiently and praying that nothing is wrong! And I pray for you too! Hope to hear from my Dr. tomorrow.
