What is wit? And what does that tell you about the person?

Wit is a characteristic that allows a person to comprehend things at a high rate of speed.

What wit tells me about someone is that they are not going to basically be someone that everyone is able to walk all over. Probably a person who has higher interests then just the average jack on the street.

This word actually has two separate meanings, but it's interesting to see how they're related.

In one sense it means perspicacity, the ability to think quickly, to 'think on your feet'. Sometimes you need to 'keep all your wits about you' or 'use all your wits'. Other times you feel you are 'at wits end'.

In another sense it means one's sense of humor. Someone who is 'witty', or 'a great wit' is clever at finding jokes in things.

There are certain people who are a lot of fun to be around because whatever happens they are able to say something clever that makes you laugh. This takes the ability to think quickly, to think on your feet. So that's how the two senses of the word are related.

A person with wit, can see the humor in everyday situations and also has a clear command of the language.
Wit shows intelligence,so does humor by the way.

I agree with the first sentence above. This simply tells me that this person's mind is clear enough in this particular situation that he gets through the normal processes quickly, leaving time to form and express extra thoughts. It doesn't guarantee those thoughts will be useful, or even appropriate. Nor does it guarantee the same ability in every situation.
