Which is better.. I'm travelling to Delhi for the first time. I don't want necessarily just western clothes, but i want nice materials, nice saris, salwars, indian art pieces on fabric... that sorta thing. which would provide it better? Connaught Place or Janpath? Any tips on Janpath (ie: beware of pickpoketers?)

If you have only half a day, I would recommend Ritu Wears in the Central Market of Lajpat Nagar for all the salwars, indian art pieces on fabric etc., the Roop Sarees also in Central Market of Lajpat Nagar for most North Indian and Banarasi silk sarees and a final one hour stop in the South Extension branch of Nalli Silks for the south indian sarees for Kancheepuram and Bangalore/Mysore silks;

At Connaught Place including Janpath, you would get the really pricey/predominantly for the "gullible foreigners who are used to doing the math in US $ only and small change in cents dont matter" kind of folks in Janpath!

Tips on Janpath - bargain, bargain and bargain; even if you like the stuff, pretend that you are not interested and walk away, they will reduce the price!

btw, Janpath is an extension of Connaught Place; and some of the fancy shops for the foreigners are located on Janpath. So your question - Janpath or Connaght place is like asking orange or fruits! On the other hand if you asked connaught place or other areas distinct from Connaught place (a la fruits, vegetables or cheese...), i would add Lajpat nagar central market, South Extension and Sarojini Nagar market into the "soup".

Pickpockets - though not as bad as in most part of Italy, keep your stuff secure and dont walk alone late in the evenings

Connaught Place will be a better choice.

Better is Janpath. Also you must visit Karolbagh. In Karolbagh buy from road side huts if you look for cheap bargain price. You would need to bargain a lot. For good quality products buy from bigger shops only. They are really good.
