My problem is, I put way too much stock and hope in people. Only to be let down in the end. This is a common part of life and it's something we're never going to be to control, the actions of other people. So when people ask me, can you forgive me? I always do and somehow in the end, I always look like a fool for trusting certain people. All this talk makes me depressed and I want to eat a cherry pie.

Yes, certainly so in my work life.
I have definitely waited too long at times to make changes.
Even after my heart and mind both know that they're in over their heads and not performing well.
I've always tried to find a person struggling a graceful and dignified exit. That typically means that I find them something to do within our company that fits their strengths and is narrower in scope that they can get their hands around.
I really try very hard not to belittle or demean anyone.
