My grandson spilled two bottles of spices, one each of curry and paprika on my light brown carpet. I have NO IDEA how to remove this stain. So far I have only very carefully vacuumed the excess. I know that both of these spices are also dyes. Can anyone help me? There is a horrible red spot in the middle of my living room carpet; it's the first thing you see when entering the room...HELP PLEASE! SVP: No jokes. I can't afford hard wood floors or new carpeting. Dyeing the wall to wall carpet would cost a fortune so that's out as well. This carpet is not old.

Step 1: Take an hour or two to blot the area with damp paper towel without rubbing it. yes, yes it is a painstakingly long and difficult process. Keep the area damp, and throw an extremely damp, nearly wet towel over it if you are going to leave it for a long period of time.

Step 2: Buy "resolve" or another carpet stain remover agent. Very vigoriously scrub the area as hard as you can using a scrub brush. Repeat this many times, following the instructions on the remover. For resolve, you wait half an hour before vacuuming it. I then wait a half-hour and then put more Resolve on the area.

I've gotten a *tar* stain out by using resolve. Most would say that you have a tar stain, you aren't going to get it out. It takes a lot of muscle and a lot of time, but it works. I think that using both Resolve powder AND Resolve foam spray will probably work (don't use them at the same time!). I also like the idea below of Oxy-Clean... Maybe alternate Resolve foam spray with Oxy-Clean.

Obviously hiring a well-paid professional carpet cleaner would be best, but it sounds like you don't have the money for that.

You did right by vaccuming the dry excess. If you use a wet solution, water (cold) is the best to start with. If you have access to a wet-vac style cleaner make sure you vac up all the water. For the stain a dry cleaning carpet cleaner like Capture or Host works well. Remember to be patient it is much like removing a stain from a sweater. (it takes a little time) Never scrub or rub!Always dab. Professional cleaners can usually do a good job if they know what caused the stain. Just don't go with the $25.00 a room people. Go with a certified technician. You can always have the spot patched with carpet from a closet, it won't be aperfect match but it will be better than a red spot. Good luck!

Blot up liquid with paper towels. Working from outside in, dab on solution of 1/2 teaspoon mild white hand dishwashing liquid in 1 cup lukewarm water. No go? Combine 1/3 cup white vinegar and 2/3 cup water, dab on. Blot with water, pat dry. If this doesn't help maybe your insurance will cover the damages.

Try Oxy Clean! Make a thin paste and rub lightly into the stain. Then you have to blot it up with lots of clean water!
Oxy Clean works on lots of stains---even red soda!!
