Hi!
My favourites movie's include: The Colour Purple; The Thief of Baghdad; Why did Bodhidharma go East? and Whistle Down the Wind.
If I had to chose, I'd say Paris Texas. It's a film every man should watch once. A beautiful film about a painful process of redemption and the realisation of ones own limitations. The ending is absolutely brilliant! A man becoming good by realising the harm he is still capable of doing.
Good wishes.

Gone with the Wind. Based on when it was made, the special effects are tremendous. Most of what we see in the movie, for example, the road leading to Tara with the trees on both sides, is not there. It was all painted in. Also, the ceilings in many of the scenes are not really there. The burning of Atlanta was a one shot deal too, so another great special effect.
I think the story, the characters, the acting, and the special effects, all help make it the best movie ever made.

TOTALLY Shawshank Redemption. It is great that all the bad guys get their come-uppance & the (maybe not perfect but) good guys have paid their dues by the end of the film. They were not going to have the end scene, but after 3 hours director decided audience needed some closure. Also, brilliant soundtrack. I've seen it loads of times even though it is so long & have the CD. Love it. Makes you feel like you can literally "get out of jail".

Pulp Fiction.
I saw it in the theatre in 1994 and I was absorbed and entranced the whole 2 plus hours. It was like a ride on a roller coaster and I loved eveything about it. I thought it was going to be ultra-violent and had to be bargained with to go. I am so glad I did as many movies are much more violent with none of the wit and good writing.
It remains my favorite.

The Godfather. I actually don't know. But it's my all time favorite movie. The character : "Godfather" showed a philosophy & that is ALWAYS USE YOUR BRAIN, NOT YOUR MIND.
