My name is normal, I feel sorry for people that have weird sounding names or that are made like some of my friends. If it's common in a different country then it's not that bad, but I'd rather be called something that's normal in the UK/US. But I suppose my name is Hebrew. In a way I'd rather have a more exciting name than Abi.

My Mother named me a beautiful name and I am very sorry to say, that all my life I disliked my name. Based simply on the fact that my brother, 8 to 9 yrs. older then I, always and on purpose made fun of my name. By pronouncing it like it was all strung out. In a bohemian type dialect, of which I am 1/4 & 3/4 german & proud of that.
Back then, I was a very insecure little girl.
I so wish that I could hug my Mother once more and tell her that I love the name she chose for me.
She so wished that I could have named myself.
I'm so glad I never got to~~jill

My name was not one of the popular ones when I was young. I was named after my mother's sister, so it would have been popular in the previous generation. I thought it was too "old fashioned." Now, I see the name is popular once again, as a lot of celebrities have named their children "my name." I also see it in birth announcements in local newspapers. Name's are cyclical. The older names are "back," so after all these years, my name "rocks." It would have been nice to have had a crystal ball into the future to know that when I was a child.

Oh, my whole life through I wished that, I could never even found the meaning of my name, it is nowhere to be found, not in any book and not on any names website. So I had a 'meaningless' name all the time. Besides, people can't even pronounce or spell my name and everybody always asks me where does my name come from. I got so tired of it that I decided last year to change my name... at the age of 37! So I started to look for nice names on the internet.
In the meantime my sister, not aware of it that I am searching for another name, got a vision one night. She was standing on her balcony and saw this immensly bright star that she has never seen before, or at least not this bright. And next to it she saw my name spelled out.... in the heavens!
The next morning she came to visit me, ironically while I was on the internet looking for a name. At that point I was so miserable, because I couldn't find anything I liked and that I felt would connect with the real me.
She told me about the vision she saw and said that now she knows that my name means 'bright star'. I thought it was actually quite nice, but still I didn't make it my own.
A week later my friend who works in Cyprus came home for Christmas time and gave me my Christmas gift. She was also unaware of my search for another name as well as the vision my sister had. I haven't had the time to tell her and besides, I wasn't as excited about it as I should. When I opened my gift from my friend, I couldn't believe my eyes, I was so stunned that my friend thought that something was wrong. I was holding confirmation in my hand... it was a bright star crystal pendant!
I wear this pendant almost everyday. I have it on now. And I have accepted my name as well as the meaning of it. Suddenly the weirdness of my name turned into uniqueness.
God works in wonderful ways!

Sometimes. But don't you think there are also a lot of people named John or Mary who wish their parents had named them something a little more creative?

Nope my parents named me a normal name, you don't get more normal than "Rebecca"

Well actually my name is "Rebbecca" It has 2 b's it's a little different which makes me more unique, but sometimes I was my name was more different I wish it sticked out more, but I do love that my initials are BBB if I go by Becky as my first name, hehe.

Trust me,you rather be a bit unique than to have the same plain-jane/john names.I have 2 girls with the same name. It's a pain when you're calling for one and the other one answers as well.

I guess Jason Lee(main character from My Name Is Earl)'s son probably wished so.Pilot Inspektor...that's child abuse.
