I live in Florida and go with my family to the parks often for a day. We usually eat counter service meals (where you get your food and find a table), and it is around $10 per person per meal. My family of 5 usually spends around $100 a day in the parks on food, snacks and drinks.
Sodas and water average $2 at the various restaurants and stands set up throughout the parks, but any counter service restaurant will give you a cup of ice water for free.
There are, of course, snack carts and so on throughout the parks, with snacks averaging around $4.
If you want to do the nicer, sit down dinners expect prices anywhere from $25-$45 per person. You will also want to call and make reservations in advance.
Have a great trip!

when i go, every time i try to spend less than $25 on each meal, and that is my family of 4. we usually always stick to it too. also set aside a certain amount of money each day for souvenier shopping. these little differences make the most difference for the grand total. I also reccomend going through AAA, because the tickets (park hopper) are cheaper with them, and in the parks there are special discounts for members. also think about getting a disney visa. these great cards get you tons of discounts throughout downtown disney, and you can even buy specialty items that only cardholders can buy. you have alot of questions about this trip don't you? have fun!

If its only two of you I would say about $350, but it depends because when you are in the parks, you always get thirsty and you always get hungry, and it depends what resort you are staying at but some have little foodstores and you can grab a cheap thing

It really depends what you are wanting to eat. For most people $50 a day per person should pretty much cover your food costs. If you plan to eat more nicer meals it will be higher, if you plan on more hamburgers and things, it will be a little less. This is just an average to give you an idea. (You can look at menus online to get an idea of the cost) If you want to do the dining plan at Disney, you can save a lot of money.
The dining plan is a great deal and saves most people 40% or more on their dining. It is only $38.99 per person, so only $77.98 for the both of you.
On the dining plan, if you use it properly, you will be able to eat at some of the nicest restuarants at Disney and get a ton of food at each place. The only thing that isn't included is alcohol. When I use the plan I usually spend more than the cost of my plan just on my table-service meal, meaning my counter-service and snack are all free for the day, plus I save a little on my main meal and the 19% tip is included.
I could go on and on about the dining plan. It is the first plan Disney has offerred that is affordable to most everyone and is well worth it. I never go without the dining plan, I like it a lot.
You can go to Disney and spend less money on dining, but you won't be able to get nearly as nice of meals as you can on the plan. If you want to eat mainly hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken nuggets, you won't spend as much on your food but you will almost pay as much as you would for the dining plan and the meals aren't nearly as nice. Counter service meals cost about $10 per person and then table-service meals are $20 and up, and then you have snacks. You get so much food on the dining plan that you won't need to bring your own snacks, make your own meals, etc So it makes it a lot more convenient that way as well.
I've included a link to one of the best sites I have found so far in regards to the dining plan. A lot of info and it helps you plan out your meals a little better. As well as a site that offers lots of great info on dining, and Disney in general.
One thing to remember, you are going in 2008, so I'm not sure if they will be offering the dining plan, how much it will cost, if it will be differnet, etc. I hope it will stay around, but I don't know. I've heard all kinds of rumors, some say the dining plan isn't coming back next year, some say it will be back but not as good (for example tip isn't included and things like that) and I've heard that they will just be raising the price. I believe last year they raised the price $1.00 when it came out for 2007, but it may have been a little higher.
One final note, you mentioned going to a grocery store. I'm not sure how you plan to get there, but usually the most popular way is by taxi, just be sure you know how much it will cost or you could be spending a lot of money for a quick little grocery trip. It may make it worth it just to buy a few things at Disney, there isn't a huge selection and it may be a little higher in cost, but to avoid a taxi ride it may be worth it. What I would suggest and it usually runs less than a taxi, is a private transfer. You can get a private transfer for around $100 (plus tip) they will pick you up at the the airport and take you to your resort and then pick you up at your resort and take you back to the airport. Most companies in Orlando will let you take 30 minutes to get a few groceries. It isn't a lot of time, but you can get most things you need in that time. This way you have your transportation to your resort and your grocery visit covered in one trip and it will more than likely save you money. You can take Magical Express, but that can cause some problems, i.e. lost luggage, long trips, etc. If you plan to go to the grocery anyway, you will probably be better off with a private transfer. Just an idea.
Please e-mail me if you have questions, I go to Disney all the time and I love to help!
Good luck with your planning!
