My plants have become really bushy and big, and I planted them too close to my tomatoes, and I can not get inbetween them. Can I either tie them up to create room or cut them back?

I wouldn't suggest cutting the vines back, but tying them up might be possible. Sounds like you'll have a nice crop of spuds, I would suggest "hilling" the vines if you haven't already done so, the more soil around the vine, the more potatoes you'll get.

Cut back the potatoes, leave a few leaves on the stems and stop feeding them nitrogen. Feed them bone meal instead

You can definitely tie them back without any problems and probably can trim them a little without much harm being done.

I tie mne up. Guess I am afraid of damaging them by cutting "too" much off.
