They are used mainly as blockers, so, like offensive linemen, they do all the dirty work, but don't get the accolades because they aren't scoring touchdowns.

Like Rodney Dangerfield, they get no respect. I'd say Lorenzo Neal is the best blocking back in the league.

Fullbacks are pretty much like a linemen that runs directly in front of the running back and rarely gets the ball, so the reason the dont get any glory is the same reason linemen dont either, when theres something wrong there the first people to blame but if the QB throws for 500yds its because of his skills not the lines (same goes with the running game)

Very few fullbacks get any recognition, they are used primarily to block for the faster, more evasive half-back. The are also used in short yardage situation, like 3rd and short or goal line situations. Fullbacks aren't known for break away speed, or elusive moves, their jobs are to hit either the hole or the defender hard. Out power defenders, or open the holes for the half back. Also in a two back set, they are usually responsible to guard the QB blind side on a passing play. So fullbacks aren't flashy, or draw a lot of attention but the things they do are very intricate to the development of any play they are on.

Well like everyone has said they mostly block for the running back. It's to bad there is no stat for a great block because they are far more then a brainless blocker. I will tell you right now moose johnson made emmit smith who he is today. Without having that animal in the backfield he wouldn't have been half the running back he is today. For instance put emmit in detroit and put barry sanders in the dallas backfield and we wouldn't even know who emmit smith is. Although there was jerome bettis he has glory. Which would be kind of annoying for any willie parker owner who watched fast willie run the ball down the field just to watch the bus pound in a 2 yarder, to steal all the glory. yeah i was a wille parker owner 2 years ago.

Because unlike the halfback, if you give the fullback the ball and he is out in the open field the fullback will not break one unless there is a defensive end chasing them.

game changed to speed.
no longer need the rugged back to eek out yardage.
plus was a blocker for the qb and then would run some yards out.
game changed.

People are only interested in the quarterbacks and receivers, they don't see the full picture.

because they are mainly used as blockers for the tail back and they don't get the yards or td's.
