Over a year ago I accidently ran over her 11 year old son. He was playing in the street when I hit him. Later he died but it was TOTALLY his fault. His mom hasn't spoken to me since he died, but I figured the mad would wear off. Finally today, I took a bundt cake over to her to try to work things out, but she slammed the door in my face without saying a word. I never sued her for the damage to my vehicle. Why can't she stop blaming me for the fact that her son was careless and caused an accident?

Probably because 'YOU' were the driver. Driving a vehicle also means being able to control it. How fast were 'YOU' driving on a residential street, that you could not avoid hitting a child???
YOU act like you ran over a trash can or something. When was the last time a "BUNDT" cake replaced a child. I think your attitude needs to be adjusted, and that is probably the reason your neighbor hates you.
Your 'vehicle ' can be replaced. (your values are very unusual)

Wow. Look... In her eyes you took her son away from her. It's only been a little over a year. The woman hasn't had enough time to heal. Unfortunately your neighbor may never come to terms with what happened. I suggest not continuing to try and make up with her. If after time she decides to soften up, it will have to be on her terms. Maybe someday she will face the fact that it wasn't your fault. Even then I wouldn't bank on anything more than a luke warm reception. Good Luck!

Stop trying to get along with your neighbor.
You know you're insensitive and totally off when you say it was the sons fault.
Your neighbor is aware that you're nuts and probably is planning to move so don't worry anymore.
You could see a therapist and they may help you understand your warped and twisted way of thinking.

So sorry to hear about this, my guess is she still is hurting over the death of her son. Even if it was not your fault, give it time (it might take a long time) she probably knows it was not your fault but as a parent I can tell you to lose a child is the worst thing you can experience.

This is the obvious case of he was badly neglected as a child and must make up stories to get attention.
I bet your mom tied a pork chop around your neck to get the dogs to play with you also, right.

you have done all that you can possibly do to smooth things over, and i wouldn't bother with your neighbor anymore. in her eyes you killed her son and she will never let you forget even though it was his fault as you say. besides you were the driver and should always be watchful of kids who play in the street

Did you apologize to her for running over her son? You should write a apologie and put it in your local paper and pay her money for his funeral that she had to pay out of pocket and also the hospital bill he and charged up before he passed. Then she might forgive you or MOVE AWAY FROM HER.

I'd say just keep your distance from her. Don't even try to get along with her. I'm so sorry for the accident.
