I want to hear from people who support bush. What are some (good) things bush has done for america? What has america gained by having him in office? If you think going to iraq was a good thing, explain how.

Now I want to hear from the people who dont support bush. What are bad things he has done (besides iraq)? Do the supposed good things he has done outweigh the bad? If you say going to iraq was a mistake, explain how. Explain other bad things he has done besides iraq.

Dont just spout off about how much you love/hate him. Be specific.

If you hate with bush, you have to admit that there has to be something (no matter how miniscule and insignificant it is) good that he has done for america.

Bad things Bush has done:

1) Failed to take the threat of terrorism seriously before 9/11.

2) Flushed every speck of global good will that America had right after we were attacked.

3) In the run-up to the war, his administration convinced Congress to go along with the war by showing them only the evidence favorable to their cause.

4) Jettisoned Colin Powell, one of the few honorable and decent people in the administration, because he wasn't sufficiently loyal to their cause.

5) Using the threat of terrorism, got Americans scared as hell. When Americans asked what they should do to help counter this grave threat to the very fabric of our country, his essential response was, "go shopping" and "pipe down while we take your civil liberties."

6) Put the U.S. Government's primary disaster relief apparatus (FEMA) in the hands of the utterly unqualified Michael Brown. His primary qualification was having been a college roommate of Bush's campaign manager.

7) Engaged in warrantless spying on Americans, in violation of the law of the land (FISA). If our country were still sane, impeachment proceedings would have begun as soon as the news came out.

8) Refused to respect Congress' right to know what the hell is going on in our country.

a) Fought to keep administration officials from testifying before the bipartisan 9/11 Commission.

b) Fought to keep administration officials from testifying about their roles in Valerie Plame's outing.

c) Fought to keep administration officials from testifying about their roles in the partisan and unjustified firings of nine U.S. Attorneys. When Alberto Gonzales went to testify before Congress, and used the phrase "I can't recall" eighty times, Bush called Gonzales' testimony "candid".

8) (see 7c) His administration fired nine competent, well-regarded U.S. attorneys, and installed Republican loyalists and political operatives in their place. This gave rise to the current U.S. Attorneys scandal.

9) Made it DoJ policy to get the bulk of their new hires from the fourth tier Liberty University. Academically, it's a poor law school. But the kids come out with a thorough indoctrination in right-wing Christianity.

10) Bush got over 3600 servicemen and women killed in Iraq.

11) The Bush Administration talks a lot about how many people were murdered under Hussein's rule. But when The Lancet published a study indicating that 600,000 Iraqi civilians had been killed since the war began, Bush dismissed the study as hopelessly flawed (it wasn't). Yet even to this day, no more comprehensive study has been done. Bush claimed to have invaded Iraq for the benefit of Iraqis, yet doesn't care to know how many Iraqis he killed in the process.

12) Bush has ignored science in favor of personal ideology in just about every decision he's made.

13) Bush has done practically nothing to confront the serious and scientifically conclusive problem of global warming.

a) Under Bush's direction, the EPA actually went to court to show that they have no right or responsibility to regulate carbon emissions. The Supreme Court told them that, yes, they did.

b) CAFE (auto fuel economy) standards haven't been raised since 1990, despite amazing advances in fuel efficiency technology (lighter, stronger materials, hybrids, etc.)

14) Bush is now invoking "executive privilege" to cover up his administration's involvement in distorting the news of the death of Pat Tillman. Tillman was a famous NFL football star who enlisted in the Army out of patriotism. His death was probably a friendly-fire incident, but public relations in both the Pentagon and the White house covered that up, in order to bring Americans a story of courage and heroism.

When asked to turn over documents showing when the administration had found out about the circumstances surrounding Tillman's death, Bush officials turned over a thousand pages of press clippings.

15) By getting us into the Iraq quagmire, and by refusing to engage "the enemy" diplomatically, Bush has allowed Iran to come far closer to its goal of getting nuclear weapons.

16) Bush has made zero progress towards the nuclear disarmament of the United States. Nuclear disarmament is not only a moral imperative, it is also an obligation under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which is as much the law of the land as any bill passed by Congress and signed by the President. In fact, the Bush administration has been working to upgrade our nuclear stockpile and develop new classes of nuclear weapons (bunker busters, etc.)

17) Moreso than even President Nixon, President Bush has shown time and time again that he believes himself to be above the law. This from a man who claimed he would be restoring dignity to the White House.

18) Kept Karl Rove around. We're talking about a man who, during the 2000 primaries, authorized a "push poll" to smear John McCain. Voters in South Carolina got phone calls from a pollster, asking if their opinion of John McCain would be changed if they heard that he'd fathered an illegitimate child with a black woman. So when voters saw McCain on stage with his adopted daughter from India, well, they were simply allowed to draw their own conclusions.

I mean, it's not technically *lying*, is it?

Men just like Karl Rove -- amoral, power-hungry, indifferent to the good of the country -- are the driving force behind this administration.

Good things Bush has done:

1) Deposed Saddam Hussein. I'm actually ambivalent about this one, though. Despite being a sadistic dictator, the country was far safer for ordinary citizens when he was in power.

2) Ended the sanctions on Iraq, which were killing millions of Iraqis.

3) The whole 'manned Mars mission' thing will be pretty cool, if it pans out.

I just see very, very little about this administration to be happy about.

*** UPDATE ***

jeepers_peepers is flat out wrong when he says that Bush is responsible for a reduction of poverty in this country. The percentage of Americans living in poverty has gone up or stayed the same every single year that Bush has been in office.

He's probably just assuming that, because "the economy is good" (read: corporate profits are at record levels) that some of that bling is trickling down. It really isn't.

It's easy to Bash Bush when every thing isn't going as easy as we like it to.I'm not happy with him on Immigration. But Iraq all the Sen +Cong+ gave him the support to go ahead they all had the same info.Great job they said Hillery was his best supporter. Then after his second term win. They turned on him & the military, every bullet & bomb dropped was on the news,Death & distruction this is all you hear about nothing good there doing. it's war. He is 1 person not the entire miliary he goes with the intel, he gets.An fighting the war and fighting with the 1s that help to put our military over there. He is strong makes some mistakes he's only human.
If you had all the BS that he has to endure everyday fighting 2 battles here an there.Everyone wants a piece of him. Doing what they wanted him to do then say iquit going home it's all yours know.Them attact him at every turn, no help just trying to defeat him & the REP party. An also the USA if were defeated in Iraq. The worse part all this drama is for votes,& power,to control the USA citizens. You might not like George Bush. But he stood up against the terrorists and is fight them not caring about himself.Would you??

The good things.

Saddam Hussein was deposed and removed from ever terrorizing anyone again.

Tax cuts have returned the economy to record numbers after the most devastating attack on US soil. (Look at the Dow Jones)

4.5% unemployment. We really do need immigrants now to fill the jobs we don't have the people for.

Now for the bad things.

He supported a form of amenisty and for some reason abadoned what he was doing good by trying to sacrifice the security of America for..... I guess future hispanic republican votes?

He cut funding for wounded veterans in the VA care system

For the answer man. I hope you don't live in America that is /has been/ and will probably be a federal offense to threaten the life of the president, Even in Jest.

haha. i hope you don't expect many positive replies about bush's performance from this forum, but i appreciate your thought and i'll give it a go.

honestly,
the US economy is great right now (those that argue that point are probably too young you have experience a bad economy)
interest rates are low
unemployment is low
inflation is very low
no attacks on US soil since 9/11

These are big things to me because they affect so many people in the country. I would give a pretty good report card to a pres of either party if they can sustain these things.

Good things
economy is great
response to 9/11 great
war is so so, the problem is we are trying to fight a politically correct war with a savage enemy that only knows death.

Bad things
illegal immigration is terrible
medicare/medicaid entitlement program
he is not very good at articulating the Iraq war. He lets all top dems call our troops every terrible thing they can (gestapo, killing people in the middle of the night, like the killing fields of cambodia, etc. ) Durbin, Kerry, Reid.
He lets Reid say the war is lost etc. He needs to call them out as the cowards they are. They voted for the war. Then called him a liar, liar, hitler, etc. He is to nice to say anything, and no republican in congress will actually call dems traitors, and how they want us to lose so they can score political points.

tax cuts which lead to a booming economy which lead to low unemployment... we have record low interest rates and inflation rates. He is fighting a battle (that was ignored for decades) against an enemy that threatens our very way of life. Though it is an up hill fight because of the under cutting of the effort and support and encouragement of the enemy by the Democrats.
That said, I disagree with his immigration policy and spending on entitlement programs... No one is perfect.

He attacked McCains and Kerrys war record even though they were willing to go fight and Bush was not.
He tool a record surplus and turned it in to a record deficit.
He burned a CIA opp for the sake of politics.
The list goes on.

I am sorry, but the USA has been hurt by Bush. There is nothing good about him. Possibly somethin on Terror but those things werw superficial. There is nothing positive unless you are a multi-millionair.

I dont support him but I am glad a monster like Saddam Hussein is out of power. Bush may have had his reasons for going to war but the outcome was good for everyone.

He has taken away or freedoms. We can be arrested and held indefinitely without trial. That is the complete opposite of everything America used to stand for.
