I have read how it was supposed to be extended to the airport on one end and to downtown on the other several years ago. Are those expansion plans dead, or just delayed? I know they were originally delayed because there were not enough passengers to justify. Has that changed? I really like the Monorail. Great for getting from one area of the strip to another. Expanding to downtown would increase ridership a lot, I would think. It's slow to get down there now on the Deuce (although a good bargain). Would really like to be able to get to the airport on it too.

Just a few days ago the company that rates bonds, Fitch Co., dropped its rating on them to ever lower junk status. They said its burning through its cash reserve quicker than originally thought and will be broke by 2010. The good news is that there is a fund to tear it down if it does go broke. Here is the whole article...

They have talked about the extension to the airport and I think that would be a huge help but I just dont see where the money is coming from. The company continues to say it will happen though. The idea of a downtown or west side extension is completely dead given the economics.

I personally like the monorail but it is a bit too expensive and is only really useful if your travel is between 2 places with a station. I do hope it survives though because the more travel options the better given the traffic situation around the strip.

They are losing money by the month. The bonds are junk status right now. They have no ability to borrow. So probably not in the near term.
