On uneven ground or most local roads round here ;-) i can hear a 'tap, tap'. I can only assume it's the exhaust moving but my mechanic seems to think not!! Hmm...If not that what?

something maybe be loose...thats the best case scenario, however, it is possible that something is wrong with the engine, get it checked by someone else. its always a good idea to have a second opinion.

Sounds like metal against metal ? Could be a rubber whatnot holding the exhaust on has gone walkabout. Also get brakes, suspension and shocks checked out. If they find a lollypop lady under ther, that could be the cause.

It could be anything loose. Check the spare tire, the jack and jack handle and any other hardware. Look for loose stuff in the glove compartment. Look under the dash for air ducts that are moving more than they should. Check the battery to be sure that the tie-down or clamps that hold it in place are secure. Look for anything that moves more than you think it should.
