You need to replace some or all of your RAM

You could have a number of issues. First I would say to run http://www.memtest86.com/ it is a free download. With restarts it could be anything. With not having an OS installed and restarting you pretty much know it will be hardware. Try running the complete memtest86 and you should get some error codes, if it is unable to run the test or you do not see any error codes then you will need to see if the shop will trouble shoot it. If you have another system I would say test each thing you can with the new system. Just shooting from the hip I would look at the power supply first. Then maybe the ram, graphics card, and if all else is going well it would be between the motherboard and the CPU. Which hopefully you have a warranty from the place which built the system, if not try to get a cheap motherboard, something new off www.newegg.com or www.zipzoomfly.com which works with everything you have to test out the processor. If it is the board you might be able to RMA it back to the manufacture. Any of those parts might still be under warranty from the manufacture. I hope this information helps and good luck with the issues, I know it is not a fun one :(

Firstly, have you loaded the software needed for it to run, for example the software for the DVD /CD, the software for the harddrive, the software for the sound card etc. If you have not you have not a cat in hells chance of doing it. You MIGHT have gotten away with it if you had installed the same make of HD
What you should have done was installed the new drive with the old one in, transferred all to the new drive, and then tried to disconnect the old drive and see if it works. MS does not like this sort of thing and frequently if you only have an OH **** disk, it will have nothing of it.
It has just taken hours of work to sort out someone elses machine. Getiing all drivers from the net, all updates and so on.
Put it back the way it was, format the new HD and start again, see if you can get a new HD of the same make.
Silly question, why did you not complain to the suppliers?

This sounds like you're RAM is at fault. If you have access to another computer, go to Windows home page and search for a program called 'RAM tester', and download this. You will need a 3.5 floppy disk for this to work. or you can burn it onto a CD using the options within the program.

PS. Try removing one stick of RAM then reboot, then do the same with the other stick
