Look at all the laws you have against social taboos and vices. instead of using grossly exagerated hypothetical and extremelly unlikely scenarios to try to justify these laws.... Why not let people do as they want so long as its not effecting you? if you choose to be disturbed by it than you deserve to be disturbed by it.

This stuff comes from all the religious people chased out of Europe so many years ago, were just stuck with it.There will always be a state of Inquisition in this Country.

Really if you look close, the USA is a land of contradictions, that's what all this stuff about "phonies' is all about.

It is also a certainty that all the time and money spent on protecting much of the World from the former USSR, costs us a lot in social progress. While most of the West had the umbrella of security from the US, they were able to coddle their people and build more sane systems. We here were in the fight our lives from WW2 on.

Try not to be so Harsh, much blood was spilled to bring peace to much of the World and it held for some time.....

hmm... i always thought the US was pretty tolerant in ways that count. seriously, just look around this forum and you can see that. maybe you live in Amsterdam and consider our laws on gambling, drug use and prostitution restrictive. But Amsterdam is just a city, and the U.S. has Las Vegas. Besides, that doesn't seem to bother the majority of us here. what country are you from that makes the US seem intolerant? Could you post that in "details" so we can give you a better comparison?

I'm an American and I agree that we don't need specific laws for different types of crimes. Assault is assault and harassment is harassment. Trying to make them gender and racial specific simply calls attention to gender and race, nothing more.

And too often offense is found in a remark or statement where no offense was meant, or at least not the offense which was taken from it. I'm tired of all of the people screaming for tolerance when they themselves show the lesser amount of it.

Additional: And to those who will say that other countries are less tolerant in ways than the USA is, what does that have to do with the question? It doesn't make the USA not intolerant just because someone else might be worse. Shooting someone dead is worse than beating them senseless, but that doesn't then make beating them senseless a good thing.

People are allowed to voice their opinions as to what they believe is right and what they believe is wrong. Many people say homosexuality is wrong. I support their right to believe that if they choose. We do not need anyone telling us what to believe, say, or think. That is a choice between an individual and God, not an individual and the government.

I don't agree with the premise of your question. It is wrong to say Americans are intolerant. Your generalizations do not have merit. Left wing liberal loonies do not run our country. To my knowledge, there are no laws on our books that I object to.
