depends on the distance and if you're aiming for a cover. running is better at shorter distances. because exposure to the rain is shorter, you'll get wet less-- compared to walking. at longer distances however, running is useless since you will eventually get soaked totally -- like when you just take your time walking.

Assuming that the rain will be constant for the amount of time in each situation, assuming there is no wind, and assuming you will go at a constant speed, assuming you do not go under anything, assuming it is rain, not a drizzle or sprinkle, then the slower you go, the more wet you become. Think of it like this. If you walk one foot a half hour, you are gonna get a half hour's worth of rain for every foot. But if you walk a foot in one second, you only get a second's worth of rain.

I've seen an episode of mythbusters where they tried to determine which method was best. I believe their conclusion was that you become less wet when walking more slowly, but my recollection is hazy. Considering that there is almost no limit on how slow you can walk, would it really be better to walk at a snail's pace so you're practically just standing there soaking? It seems to make more sense to run, if you ask me.
