Hi, the first answer was ALMOST right. It should be La societé des quarante hommes et huit chevals. In French, as in Spanish, the adjective comes before the noun it's describing. The phonetic English translation would be like this: la so-see-ay-TAY day kah-rawnt om ay wheat shay-VAWL. The boldface parts just means that it takes the stress of the word. Just keep in mind though that any word in French that has more than two syllables takes the stress on the last syllable. Hope this helps.

Did you want the French given by the previous post given as phoenetic English so that you know to say it, or are you OK with the French pronounciation when you have the words in front of you?

Another note on pronounciation: the 'h' in 'hommes' is silent and you run the 's' on the end of 'des' into 'hommes' so it would sound something like desommes (dayzums). Same with chevals huit...run the s into huit and the 'h' is silent.
