By now you know it's the right hand side, and the steering wheel is on the left.
Can't remember the reason why they drive on the right (and I'm not looking it up), although I do remember this from a documentary.
There was no set pattern for steering wheels in the States 'til Henry Ford chose the left side his first cars, for no apparent reason (that I remember). When his cars were mass produced, the rest of the makers followed suit and as they say the rest is history.
Thanks

Like most of the rest of the world, the Americans drive on the right. But I think they didn't used to. Up until about 1914 I believe, they used to drive on the left. I'm sure I've seen old photos from the wild west with the wagon or stagecoach drivers sitting on the right as well. Of course I may be completely wrong and my memory is playing tricks on me. If any Americans see this, can you tell me if I'm right or wrong?

the wrong side. I say this because we are supposed to drive on the left hand side. It all dates back to the time when horses were the only form of transport.
because most people are right handed (especially in the old days) they rode horses on the left hand side of the road so if an enemy approached they would be in the right position to draw out their swords and use them faster. the same goes for guns.

On the right. But note that on multi-lane roads they generally stick to whatever lane they are in and don't pull back into the R lane. Wrong side overtaking is generally accepted

Right side---- because years ago when we used horses, we mounted from the left side---we mounted from the left because our swords hung from the left side and we didn't want to tangle them up by mounting from the right, the swords were hung on the left because we needed to draw them with our right hand---- and the automakers felt people would be more inclined to enter a car from the left also. Plus shifting was necessary and most people were more coordinated with using the right hande to shift.

Just goes to prove that the Yanks can take any simple idea and scew with it. If left is rite and right is wrong then they are wrong.
