To me, it does not matter. I have come across some pretty mature 20somethings as well as some juvenile 40somethings. I think it works if you have a lot of common ground.

My real life wife (and not our cartoonish anthro-dragon alter egos!) is six and a half years older than me. when we married in '97, she was 30 and I was 23.

All these years, I don't regret it for a second. True, she may get old and grey before I do, but I married her for her heart and soul and humor.

Provided people are adults, age really shouldn't be a big deal, but if there is a real age gap in a couple wanting to have children, this can cause a lot of generational-gap problems, and so forth. (For example, a 70 year old man marries a woman less than half his age, and they have children. This means the father will be almost 90 years old if and when the first child graduates on time!)

Well, bearing in mind the legal age requirements etc, age shouldn't really matter. You can't help who you fall in love with and many relationships work where there's a difference in age.
For me, too big a gap would be a problem, as I like to be around (as in a relationship) someone that has a fair bit in common with me.

As long as the age difference between the two people is legal then age doesn't matter.

There is a 20 year age difference between us, and we've been together for 22 years now! I think we're doing ok!!

I would say 4 to 8 years is OK...but I guess if people are in love and adults age doesn't really matter....
